Appropriate assistance systems for a self-determined life
A self-determined and independent life has a high priority for elderly and disadvantaged people. They increasingly use supporting technologies to help them continue to live independently within their own four walls. The safe@home system ensures safety for people in their accustomed surroundings by sending help on its way as rapidly and reliably as possible in emergency situations. It provides emotional security without limiting any freedom and preserves each user’s privacy. Sensor boxes, installed in the ceiling in a similar way to smoke alarms, recognise whether a person has fallen down or is in a helpless state. It is not necessary for the user to carry any sensors or worry about the system. The sensor boxes can be mounted in any location and ensure safety throughout the home.
If the sensor box recognises an emergency situation it informs the alarm unit in the home. This immediately summons help – by landline, mobile phone or the internet.
